UCLA 유일의 한국인 비즈니스 동아리인 KUBS(Korean Undergraduate Business Society)는 오는 5월, 미국 내 한인 유학생 및 대학생을 대상으로 하는 ‘KUBS TANK 2025’ 창업경진대회를 개최한다. 이번 대회는 총상금 500달러와 함께 실무형 멘토링, 법률 특강 등 다양한 혜택을 제공할 예정이며, 미국 내 창업을 준비 중인 청년들에게 실제적인 도움을 주고자 마련되었다.

실전형 창업 체험 프로그램… 예선 영상 제출 및 본선 실시간 피칭으로 진행

‘KUBS TANK 2025’는 단순 아이디어 발표를 넘어, 예선(영상 제출)과 본선(Zoom 실시간 피칭)의 2단계로 나뉘는 실전형 대회다. 참가자들은 예선에서 3~5분 분량의 영상을 제출해 창의성과 문제 인식 등을 평가받게 되며, 여기서 선발된 상위 6개 팀이 본선에 진출한다.

본선은 5월 15일(미국 기준) Zoom을 통해 실시간으로 진행되며, 발표 이후 심사위원과의 Q&A 세션을 통해 시장성, 실행 가능성, 팀 구성 등의 요소를 집중 평가받는다.

심사위원으로는 △송새라 샴페인 대표 겸 컨설턴트 △성기원 K-Startup Law 대표변호사 △카카오벤쳐스 조현익 심사역 등이 참여할 예정이다.

법률 특강과 전문가 멘토링까지… 풍성한 후속 지원

본선 진출팀 전원에게는 성기원 변호사의 스타트업 법률 특강이 제공된다. 특강에서는 미국에서 창업을 준비하는 데 필수적인 법적 구조와 회사 설립 절차 등을 다룰 예정이며, 스타트업 전문가 3인과의 1:1 또는 소그룹 멘토링을 통해 발표자료 구성, 시장 분석, 비즈니스 모델 고도화 등에 관한 구체적인 조언도 얻을 수 있다.

대회 종료 후에는 KUBS가 주관하는 네트워킹 프로그램에 참여해, 실제 창업과 연계할 수 있는 후속 지원을 받을 수 있다. 이를 통해 미주 지역 한인 동포 청년들의 경쟁력을 한층 강화하는 데 목적을 두고 있다.

2nd Annual ‘KUBS TANK 2025’ Startup Competition for Korean College Students – Applications Due on May 4

Korean Undergraduate Business Society (KUBS), the only Korean business club at UCLA, will host the 2nd Annual “KUBS TANK 2025” Startup Competition this May. Targeting Korean international students and undergraduates across the United States, the competition aims to provide practical support for aspiring entrepreneurs, including a total cash prize of $500, professional mentoring, and a legal seminar.

Hands-On Startup Experience: Preliminary Video Submission & Live Pitching

Unlike a traditional idea competition, KUBS TANK 2025 consists of two stages—a Preliminary Round (video submission) and a Final Round (live Zoom pitching). In the Preliminary Round, participants will be evaluated on creativity and problem recognition through a 3–5 minute video submission. The top six teams selected from this round will advance to the Final.

The Final Round will take place via Zoom on May 15 (U.S. time). Teams will present their ideas and answer questions in a live Q&A session. The judging panel—consisting of Ms. Saera Song (CEO and Consultant at Champagne), Attorney Ki-Won Sung (Founder of K-Startup Law), and Mr. Hyunik Cho (Investment Manager at Kakao Ventures)—will evaluate teams on market potential, feasibility, and team structure.

Legal Seminar & Expert Mentoring for Finalists

All finalists will be invited to a legal seminar by Attorney Ki-Won Sung, offering essential guidance on legal structures and company registration procedures for U.S.-based startups. Additionally, participants will receive 1:1 or small-group mentoring sessions with three startup experts, covering topics such as presentation design, market analysis, and business model development.

After the competition, finalists will have opportunities to join a follow-up networking program hosted by KUBS, further supporting participants in translating their ideas into real-world entrepreneurial ventures. The overarching goal is to bolster the competitiveness of Korean diaspora youth in the United States.
