Tubi Achieves First Quarterly Profit, Proving FAST Model's Sustainability
Free Streaming's First Profitability Milestone Marks Industry Turning Point
Tubi, the world's leading free ad-supported streaming TV (FAST) platform, achieved its first quarterly profit in October 2025 (fiscal year 2026 Q1: July-September 2025), setting a new milestone for the industry. The achievement came faster than expected.
Having surpassed 1 billion hours of monthly viewing time and $1 billion in annual revenue, Tubi has demonstrated that the FAST service model represents a genuinely profitable and sustainable long-term business.
Fox Corp CEO Lachlan Murdoch officially confirmed Tubi's profitability during the Q1 earnings call on October 30, stating that Tubi is opening a new chapter in the media business. Alongside Tubi's strong performance, Fox exceeded Wall Street analysts' expectations, reporting adjusted earnings per share of $1.51 and total revenue of $3.7 billion.
According to the earnings report, Tubi's revenue increased 27% year-over-year, while viewing hours grew 18%. Murdoch projected that "in the medium term, Tubi is expected to make a meaningful contribution to EBITDA, with margins in the 20-25% range." He called this "a great milestone and a testament to the Tubi brand," describing Tubi as "America's top premium AVoD (advertising-based video-on-demand) platform." He added that Tubi's faster-than-expected profitability "may partially offset the overall investment expected in digital operations this year."
